AT CITERNE BEIRUT
This annual contemporary dance platform continues this year to enhance its already established reputation as one of the most important dance festivals in the region.
For its 13th edition, BIPOD will showcase internationally acclaimed companies from Switzerland, Spain, The Netherlands, UK, Germany, and Sweden. Twenty two dance performances, seven workshops, two exhibitions and more than a hundred artist, approach dream, change, and responsibility with different perspectives.
The 13th edition of BIPOD will be launched on Thursday April 13th from CITERNE BEIRUT (Armenia Street, Al Nahr, Mar Mikhael), which is a new creative and mobile performing art space in Beirut that will present local and international contemporary dance performances, music concerts, theatre productions, and other forms of the arts.

As part of promoting and developing the dance scene in Lebanon and the Arab Countries, Maqamat will organize within BIPOD the 6th edition of MOULTAQA LEYMOUN from Friday April 21 till Sunday April 23, and will feature 20 artists from different Arab Countries. More than 40 international festival director and dance programmer will also attend this year's meetings, talks, performances and studio presentations.

About The Company
Alias is an independent contemporary dance company, founded in Geneva by choreographer and dancer Guilherme Botelho. The company seeks out unexplored, unusual and hidden perspectives, from which to show an alternative to the comforting, mechanical reality of our everyday perceptions. Using movement as a language capable of expressing emotions in their raw and unconscious state, Alias harnesses individual energy to convey the meaning of the piece.
"ألياس" Alias هي فرقة رقص معاصرة أسّسها "غيليرم بوتيلو" Guilherme Botelho في مدينة "جنيف". تغوص الفرقة في وجهات نظر غير اعتيادية وغامضة لم يتمّ استكشافها بعد، لتُظهر بواسطتها بديلاً للواقع المريح والميكانيكي لمفاهيمنا اليومية. من خلال استخدام الحركة كلغةٍ للتعبير عن الأحاسيس بحالتها الطبيعية والفطرية، تسخّر "ألياس" الطاقة الفردية لكي تنقل لنا جوهر هذا العمل.
About The Performance
Le Poids des éponges invites us to look at our daily lives clearly yet from a distance, slightly shifted in time or space. It is like experiencing something for the very first time. Might this subtly surrealist shift be the result of a perspective released from the veil of our routine? The piece challenges our perceptions and our interpretation of reality.
يدعونا عرض Le Poids des éponges “ثقل الإسفنج“ إلى التمعّن في حياتنا اليومية عن بعد، متأرجحين بين الزمان والمكان. هو إحساس المرّة الأولى. فهل يكون هذا الانتقال السريالي بعض الشيء نتيجة لنظرة تتحرّر من وراء ستارة الروتين اليومي؟ عرض يختبر كلّ مفاهيمنا وتفسيرنا للواقع.

About the performance
Since 1975 Lutz Förster has been dancing over a period of 40 years with the Tanztheater Wuppertal - Pina Bausch and was the Artistic Director of the company from April 2013 until July 2016. Since 1991 he is Professor for Contemporary Dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany and has been directing the Dance Department until 2012. In 2009 he created a Solo “Lutz Förster- Portrait of a dancer”, in which he looks back on his life as a dancer especially the 34 year collaboration with Pina Bausch, as well as his work with Robert Wilson and the Jose Limón Dance Company. He has been touring this solo until today in Germany and around the world (Warsaw, Ferrara, Brussels, Oslo, Zagreb, Seoul among others).
In 2017 he revised this piece. “Lutz Förster – Dance Stories by and with Lutz Förster” will be performed for the first time at BIPOD 2017 the Beirut International Platform of Dance.
About the artist
Lutz Förster spent the season 1981/82 with scholarship in New York, where he mainly danced with the José Limón Dance Company. In July 1984, he returned to the company as Associate Artistic Director, where he performed in choreographies by José Limón, Anna Sokolow, and Meredith Monk among others. He has been working freelance with Robert Wilson in productions of the Hamburg State Opera (Cosmopolitan Greetings) and the Scala di Milano (Dr. Faustus) and with Sir Simon Rattle for the Salzburg Festival (Les Boréades). He also appeared in several TV and Film productions, as in Wim Wenders “Pina”. He trained at the Folkwang - Hochschule in Essen and studied with Hans Züllig and Jean Cébron among others. Up until 1978, Förster was a member of the Folkwang Tanzstudio under the direction of Susanne Linke and Reinhild Hoffmann. He has been working as a guest teacher worldwide. In 2008/09 he taught as a guest professor for the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico.
In September 2015 Lutz Förster was awarded in Positano/Italy the Léonide Massine Dance Prize for his lifetime achievement (Premio alla Carriera).
رقص "لوتز فورستر" Lutz Förster منذ العام ١٩٧٥ لمدّة أربعين عاماً مع Tanztheater Wuppertal - Pina Bausch وعمل كمدير فنيّ للفرقة من نيسان ٢٠١٣ وحتّى تموز ٢٠١٦. يعمل منذ العام ١٩٩١ كبروفيسور للرقص المعاصر في جامعة Folkwang للفنون في مدينة "إيسن" في ألمانيا وقد عُيّن مديراً لقسم الرقص فيها حتّى العام ٢٠١٢.
أطلق في العام ٢٠٠٩ عرضاً منفرداً بعنوان Lutz Förster- Portrait of a dancer عاد من خلاله إلى حياته كراقص وإلى تعاونه بشكل خاص على مدى ٣٤ عاماً مع "بينا باوش" Pina Bausch، فضلاً عن عمله مع "روبرت ولسون" Robert Wilson وفرقة الرقص "جوزيه ليمون" Jose Limón. ولا يزال حتّى اليوم يجول بعمله في ألمانيا وحول العالم (وارسو، فيرارا، بروكسل، أوسلو، زغرب، سول، وغيرها...)
في العام ٢٠١٧، أعاد ابتكار هذا العرض وسوف يقوم بتأدية (لوتز فورستر-قصص رقص من ومع لوتز فورستر) Lutz Förster – Dance Stories by and with Lutz Förster لأوّل مرّة خلال "مهرجان بيروت للرقص المعاصر ٢٠١٧" BIPOD.
حصل "لوتز فورستر" على منحة في نيويورك في العامين ١٩٨١ و١٩٨٢، حيث رقص بشكل خاص مع فرقة "جوزيه ليمون". في تموز من العام ١٩٨٤، عاد إلى الفرقة كمساعد مدير فنيّ وقدّم عروضاً من توقيع كلّ من "جوزيه ليمون"، و"أنا سوكولو" Anna Sokolow و"ميريديث مونك" Meredith Monk وغيرهم.
يعمل بشكل مستقلّ مع "روبرت ولسون" على إنتاجات لدور الأوبرا Hamburg State Opera (Cosmopolitan Greetings)، و Scala di Milano (Dr. Faustus) ومع قائد الفرقة الموسيقية "سايمون راتل" Sir Simon Rattle خلال مهرجان "زالتسبورغ" (Les Boréades). ظهر أيضاً في عدد من الإنتاجات التلفزيونية والأفلام مثل فيلم "بينا" للمخرج والمصوّر الألماني "فيم فيندرز" Wim Wenders. هذا بالإضافة إلى عمله كمدرّب للرقص في جامعة Folkwang للفنون في مدينة "إيسن" وتعلّمه مع "هانس زوليغ" Hans Züllig و"جان سيبرون" Jean Cébron وغيرهم. بقي عضواً في فرقة Folkwang Tanzstudio حتّى العام ١٩٧٨ تحت إشراف "سوزان لينك" Susanne Linke و"راينهيلد هوفمن" Reinhild Hoffmann.
في العامين ٢٠٠٨ و٢٠٠٩، عمل كبروفيسور في جامعة Veracruzana في المكسيك ثمّ حاز في أيلول من العام ٢٠١٥ على جائزة Léonide Massine Dance في "بوسيتانو" في إيطاليا عن عمله الباهر Premio alla Carriera.

About The Company
Since the creation of Compagnie 7273, Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have developed a dance style that invites the body to continuously and endlessly unravel. Named Multi styles FuittFuitt by the choreographers themselves, this singular dance style is widely taught to young dancers in professional training. Laurence and Nicolas also regularly give sessions of workshops in Switzerland and abroad. Since 2003, they have created about twenty pieces all of which they toured internationally. They have won several awards: the Swiss Prize for Dance and Choreography, and the Fondation Lietchi for the Arts.
طوّر "لورانس يادي" Laurence Yadi و"نيكولا كانتيون" Nicolas Cantillon، منذ انطلاق فرقة 7273، أسلوباً خاصاً في الرقص يدعو الجسد إلى التحرّر الدائم والأزليّ. وقد أطلق مصمّما الرقص على هذا الأسلوب اسم Multi styles FuittFuitt فبات يتعلّمه الكثير من الراقصين الشباب من خلال دورات تدريب محترفة. كذلك، ينظّم "لورانس" و"نيكولا"، وبشكل دوريّ، ورش عمل في سويسرا والخارج. وقد ابتكرا منذ العام ٢٠٠٣ حوالى عشرين عرضاً جالت كلّها العالم؛ كما حازا على جوائز عدّة منها جائزة سويسرا للرقص وجائزة جمعية Lietchi للفنون.
About the performance
Read with different interpretations and with a different significance, the succession of shapes and images is about the indulgence of going in a journey until the very end of each gesture. The Crucifixion, the raised fist of the Black Panthers, the homage to Nijinski’s Fauve, not only takes us into a journey of movement but also into a complex layer of significance. ‘Listen & Watch’ endlessly reinvents itself through artistic encounters with musicians since it was first performed to the music of Sir Richard Bishop. This includes the Mozambican bass player Nelton Miranda, the Italian musician Jacques Mantica, and the well-renowned Egyptian oud player Sam Shalabi. For BIPOD 2017, Nicolas Cantillon will be accompanied by Maurice Louca, one of the most exciting artists in the alternative music scene across the Arab world today.
من خلال تفسيرات وتعبيرات مختلفة، يترجم تتابع الأشكال والصّور لذّة الانطلاق في رحلة حتّى آخر كل حركة. وننتقل في رحلة حركيّة مع Crucifixion، والقبضة المرفوعة للفهود السود، وFauve لراقص الباليه "نغينسكاي"، ولكن ندخل أيضاً في طبقة معقّدة من التعبيرية. يعيد عرض Listen & Watch إعادة ابتكار ذاته مراراً وتكراراً من خلال مواجهات فنيّة مع موسيقيّين منذ تقديمه للمرة الأولى على أنغام موسيقى "ريتشارد بيشوب"؛ هذا بالإضافة إلى عازف الغيتار الموزمبيقي "نلتون ميراندا"، والموسيقي الإيطالي "جاك مانتيكا"، وعازف العود المصري الشهير "سام شلبي". في "مهرجان بيروت للرقص المعاصر ٢٠١٧"، يترافق "نيكولا كانتيون" مع الموسيقي المصري "موريس لوقا"، أحد أبرز الفنّانين على ساحة الموسيقى البديلة في العالم العربي اليوم.

Wayne McGregor CBE is a multi-award-winning British choreographer and director. He is Artistic Director of Studio Wayne McGregor, the creative engine of his life-long choreographic enquiry into thinking through and with the body. Studio Wayne McGregor encompasses his extensive creative collaborations across dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science; Company Wayne McGregor, his own touring company of dancers; and highly specialized learning and research programmes. Wayne McGregor is also Resident Choreographer at The Royal Ballet, where his productions are acclaimed for their daring reconfiguring of classical language.

About The Performance
Inspired by the controversial Age of Enlightenment, FAR mines an era that first placed 'a body in question'. The Company Wayne McGregor dancers confront the distortions, sensuality and feeling of the 18th Century's searing contemporary sensibility to a haunting score by the critically-acclaimed composer Ben Frost. In addition, the jaw-dropping visuals including a computerized pin board of 3,200 LED lights make this production an absolute must-see. With FAR, McGregor takes a fascinating creative journey, drawing on a radical cognitive research process.
يصوّر عمل “البعيد”FAR المستوحى من عصر التنوير المثير للجدل حقبة تمّ فيها تسليط الضوء على الجسد للمرّة الأولى. تفجّر فرقة الرقص "واين ماكغريغور" الاضطرابات والشهوات والأحاسيس التي سادت في القرن الثامن عشر على خلفيّة موسيقية معاصرة للمؤلف الشهير "بن فروست" Ben Frost. أمّا الصور المذهلة واللوحة الإلكترونية المزوّدة بـ ٣،٢٠٠ ضوء LED فتضفي رونقاً على العرض. من خلال هذا العرض، يأخذنا "ماكريغور" في رحلة إبداعية مستلهماً من عملية بحث إدراكية جذرية.

About The Artist
Bassam Abou Diab is a theater graduate from the Lebanese University
and a folklore and contemporary dance artist. He has been dancing with Omar Rajeh|Maqamat for several years. He performed in “Mushrooms and Fig Leaves”, “Hibr”, “That Part of Heaven” and “Watadour”. He was also part of the intensive dance training program Takween in 2010 and 2011, where he worked with choreographers such as Marcel Leemann, Emilyn Claid, Thierry Smith, Luc Dunberry, Marco Cantalupo, Anani Dodji
Sanouvi, Radhouane El Meddeb, Jens Bjerregard, Kristina De Chatelle,
Damien Jalet and Franceso Scavetta. Bassam has also performed in theater plays in Lebanon with directors such as Ossama Halal, Rouaida al Ghali, Badih Abou Chakra and Malek Andary.

شارك في ورشة عمل تكوين في 2010-2011 و عدة ورش عمل في الرقص و المسرح الحركي في لبنان و خارجه مع مدربين منهم (مارسيل ليمان، داميان جاليه، مانويل روندا، أميلين كلايد، كريستينا دو شاتيل، ماركو كانتالوبو، اناني سانوڤي، ثيري سميث و غيرهم).
شارك في عرض الأمطار الجانبية مع فرقة ألياس السويسرية في مهرجان بيروت للرقص المعاصر في 2016.

About The Performance
"Under The Flesh" is a contemporary dance performance. It is a personal reflexion that rises the question of how the body reacts in situations of war and danger and how this survival condition can be turned into a kind of dance with its specific technique.
تحت الجلد هو عرض رقص معاصر، يروي تجربة شخصية حول علاقة مع قنبلة في إيطار كوميدي يطرح تساؤلاً حول جدوى مواجهة الخطر و ردات فعل الجسد في مواجهة حالات الموت و القصف و كيفية البقاء على قيد الحياة من وجهة نظر خيالية تتحول لنوع من الرقص مع تقنيات فريدة.

About The Company
Born in Algeria, Nacera Belaza is based in France. After her studies in literature she has created her own dance company in 1989. The essence of her artistic work originates in an inner progress, a sensible awareness of the body, of space and of the ‘emptiness’ inside herself. Her path resembles a quest and tends towards the enhancement of the direct bond between the dancer and the spectator, open to the infinite of the stage. Nacera Belaza's creations all explore the movement as one would explore a calm, profound and continuous breath that would mix with "the deafening row of our existences". Nacera Belaza's Company presents its pieces internationally with a regular presence in Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.
ولدت "نصيره بلعزّا” في الجزائر وهي تقيم اليوم في فرنسا. أنشأت فرقتها الخاصة للرقص في العام ١٩٨٩، بعد أن أنهت دراساتها في مجال الأدب. ينبع جوهر عملها الفنيّ من تطوّر داخلي ووعي حسّاس للجسد والمكان و"الفراغ" الذي بداخلها. أمّا مسيرتها فتشبه عملية بحث وتميل إلى تعزيز الرابط المباشر بين الراقص والمشاهد، منفتحة إلى ما لا نهاية المسرح. تستكشف إبداعات "نصيره بلعزّا” الحركة مثلما نستكشف نفَساً هادئاً وعميقاً ومتواصلاً يمتزج بـ "الدويّ الصاخب لحياتنا"؛ وتقدّم عروضها حول العالم مع حضور دائم في أوروبا، وأفريقيا، وآسيا وأمريكا الشمالية.
About The Performance
This choreography, primarily composed of high-speed turns, literally hypnotizes us. We distinguish more than we look at, as Nacera Belaza creates a sensitive trail of the movement in her performance. Dance, as perfectly demonstrated in Sur Le Fil, becomes the tiny delicate space between the visible and the invisible, transcendence and ‘immanence’. A spiritual atmosphere, a sort of a metaphysical night, an “oeuvre au noir” which is not nothingness but the condition of the emergence of something else, and this “something else” is absolutely beautiful.
هذا العرض الراقص، المؤلّف قبل كل شيء من دوران عالي السرعة، يسيطر على تفكيرنا بكل ما تحمله الكلمة من معنى. وتتجاوز ملاحظتنا ما نشاهده، إذ تخلق "نصيره بلعزّا” أثراً حسّاساً للحركة في أدائها. تأخذنا الرقصات، كما نرى في "سور لو فيل" Sur Le Fil، إلى مكان صغير دقيق يفصل المرئي عن غير المرئي، والتعالي عن المحايثة. أجواء روحيّة تحاكي ليلة ميتافيزيقية، "ظلام" لا يعني أبداً الفراغ بل حالة انبثاق "شيء آخر" يغمره جمال لا يوصف.

About The Artist
Sorour Darabi is a self-taught Iranian artist, currently based in Paris. Sorour is following a research around the issue of gender and language as a resident in Cité internationale des arts. In 2013 ‘she—he’ participated in Ex.e.r.ce, a Master’s degree of choreography proposed by the National Choreographic Center of Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées, under the direction of Mathilde Monnier and then Christian Rizzo. Before moving to France, Sorour was a member of an underground Dance association, ICCD, and had created three solos. ICCD is also the founder of an underground Dance Festival called “untimely”.
“هي-هو” فنّانة إيرانية تعلمّت الرقص بنفسها وتقيم حالياً في باريس حيث تعمل كفنانه مقيمة في المدينة الدولية للفنون وتتعمّق في الأبحاث حول مسألة الاختلاف الجنسي واللغة. في العام ٢٠١٣، شاركت في Ex.e.r.ce ، ماجيستر في فنّ الرقص من تقديم المركز الوطني لفن الرقص في مونبلييه لنكدوك روسيون- ميدي بيرينه، تحت إشراف "ماتيلد مونييه" Mathilde Monnier ومن بعدها "كريستيان ريزو" Christian Rizzo. وقبل الانتقال إلى فرنسا، كانت "سرور دارابي" عضواً في فرقة الآندرجراوند ICCD التي أطلقت أيضاً مهرجان رقص الآندرجراوند بعنوان "أنتايملي" untimely.
About The Performance
What if you come from a neutral world and, all of a sudden, everything has no gender? The Iranian dancer Sorour Darabi has a personal answer to that question. ‘Her—his’ mother tongue, Farsi, is not masculine nor feminine. Since ‘she—he’ has been living in France, ‘she—he’ has had to get to grips with a world in which literally everything is either masculine or feminine. With no ifs or buts. In Farsi, the word « gender » is said «جنسیت jenssiat », which means material. When it applies to the objects, it refers to their materiality. When it applies to living beings, humans and animals, it refers to their sex. Therefore, in her language, the gender of the table is wood. So, is ‘her—his’ gender the skin, the flesh, the bones, the muscles, blood, the blood vessels, the capillaries, the cells? ‘Her—his’ solo «Farci.e» has been a creation for the Montpellier Danse Festival 2016, and won the jury price from Zürcher Theater Spektakel Festival 2016.
ماذا لو كنت ولدت في عالم محايد حيث، وبشكل مفاجئ، لا شيء ينتمي إلى جنس معيّن؟ تحمل الراقصة الإيرانية "سرور دارابي" شخصياً الجواب على هذا السؤال. ففي الواقع، لغتها الأمّ، أي الفارسية، ليست مذكّرة أو مؤنثّة. وقد وجدت نفسها، خلال فترة إقامتها في فرنسا، تواجه عالماً يأتي كلّ شيء فيه مذكّراً أو مؤنثّاً؛ من دون شرط أو سبب. أمّا في اللغة الفارسية، فتتحوّل كلمة "جنس" إلى "جنسيت" التي تعني "ماديّ". وعندما تُنسب هذه الكلمة إلى الأشياء، تدلّ على ماديّتها بينما تدلّ على جنس الكائنات الحيّة والإنسان والحيوان عندما تنطبق عليهم. بهذا، يكون جنس الطاولة بلغتها الأمّ هو الخشب. فهل يترجَم جنسها بالبشرة، الجسد، العظام، العضلات، الأوعية الدموية، الشعر، الخلايا؟ العرض الفردي "فارسي" Farci.e ابتكرته لمهرجان مونبلييه للرقص ٢٠١٦ وقد حاز على جائزة لجنة التحكيم في مهرجان Zürcher Theater Spektakel في العام ٢٠١٦.

About The Performance
Shekarpareh is a bittersweet piece; a feminine image from the darkly glorious Qajar era. It is the image of asymmetry and imbalance caused by years of fear and solitude rather than a classical, aesthetical symmetry. This piece moves through the delicacy of a psych’s journey into the vague and dark sides of that period of history. The work is heightened with Persian visual motifs alongside the contemporary movement materials.
هي قطعة حزينة وصورة أنثوية من الحقبة القاجارية العظيمة. هي صورة عدم التناسق وعدم التوازن التي سبّبتها سنوات الذعر والوحدة بعيداً عن التناسق الجماليّ الكلاسيكي. هي رحلة إلى الجوانب الغامضة والمبهمة لتلك الفترة من التاريخ. عمل رائع يتألّق بأنماط بصريّة فارسية بموازاة الموادّ الحركية المعاصرة.

About The Artist
After dance studies in Paris, Meryem Jazouli’s work is marked by the Moroccan context where she lives. Her career was punctuated though meeting French choreographer Bernardo Montet, and through the collaboration with La Source du Lion, in addition to the artist Hassan Darsi. Several participative projects, in Casablanca and abroad, allowed her to collaborate with other artistic forms and to create performances with other artists. In parallel with her creative work, she founded « Darja », a space dedicated to creation, residency and training of contemporary dance.
بالرغم من دراستها لفنّ الرقص في باريس، إلّا إنّ أعمال "مريم جزولي" تنطبع أوّلاً بالمفهوم المغربي حيث تقيم. بدأت مسيرتها عند لقائها مصمّم الرقص الفرنسي "برناردو مونتيه" Bernardo Montet، ومن خلال تعاونها مع الاستديو الفنيّ "لا سورس دو ليون" La Source du Lion، إلى جانب الفنّان "حسن دارسي" Hassan Darsi. مشاريع تشاركية عددية، في الدار البيضاء وخارجها، سمحت لها بالتعاون مع أشكال فنيّة أخرى وابتكار عروض مع فنّانين آخرين. أسّست، إلى جانب عملها الإبداعي، "درجه" وهي مساحة مخصّصة للإبداع والإقامة الفنيّة والتدريب على الرقص المعاصر.
About The Performance
Containing ancestral heritages, popular traditions and women's stories, ‘Contessa’ appears as a real journey through the Moroccan culture. It starts from a symbolically feminine universe and passes through different natures and situations of femininity. The artist takes us to meet various moving characters in their struggle: the legendary Aïcha Qandicha and the singer Hajja Hamdaouia among others. Meryem Jazouli lends her body to all these women whose representation, often caricatured, is created, fantasized and conveyed by a male imagination and of which they remain trapped.
من خلال إرث عريق، وتقاليد شهيرة وقصص نسائية، يتألّق عرض "كونتيسا" Contessa كرحلة حقيقية في الثقافة المغربية. تبدأ الرحلة من عالم أنثويّ رمزيّ لتخترق مختلف أشكال وحالات المرأة. تعرّفنا الفنّانة إلى صراع شخصيّات مؤثرة عديدة: الأسطورة "عائشة قنديشة" والمغنيّة "الحاجة الحمداوية"، وغيرهما الكثير. وتقدّم "مريم جزولي" جسدها إلى كل تلك النساء بصورتهّن، الكاريكاتورية في أغلب الأحيان، التي ابتكرتها وتخيّلتها ونقلتها مخيّلة ذكورية فأسرتها.

About The Artist
Coming from a background in Literature, Teaching & Communication, Sina discovered performing arts in 2012. He helped to establish and co-founded an independent dance group called MaHa alongside 7 other young artists in Tehran. MaHa has had several successful dance creations in Iran (including Iran’s first “Body Movement” festival in March 2016) some of which currently touring around the world. Other than MaHa, he currently works as a communicator, manager, performer and creator in the growing dance community of Tehran. His own artistic work deals with identity, culture and the cosmos.
درس "سينا صابري" الأدب والتعليم والاتّصال قبل أن يكتشف في العام ٢٠١٢ الفنون التعبيرية. ساهم في تأسيس وإنشاء فرقة رقص مستقّلة تحمل اسم "ماها" إلى جانب ٧ فنّانين شباب في مدينة طهران. برزت "ماها" من خلال إبداعات متعدّدة مذهلة في مجال الرقص في إيران (منها المهرجان الأوّل في إيران "حركة الجسد" في آذار ٢٠١٦) بحيث يجول بعضها العالم اليوم. إلى جانب "ماها"، يعمل "سينا صابري" حالياً كمحاور، ومدير، ومؤدّي ومبتكر في مجتمع الرقص الذي يلاقي ازدهاراً في طهران. وتتناول أعماله الفنيّة مسائل الهويّة والثقافة والوجود.

Mostafa Shabkhan is a dancer, choreographer based in Tehran. He started as an actor in 1996 in Kashan, Iran and then moved to Tehran. He worked in the field of physical theater under supervision of several local and international masters. In 2011, he was nominated as best leading actor for Fadjr international festival. Since 2014, he has been the General Director of MaHa Body Movement group in Tehran. He is currently touring as a dancer in the international piece, Zaafaran, choreographed by Omar Rajeh.
هو راقص ومصمّم رقص يقيم في طهران. بدأ مسيرته كممثّل في العام ١٩٩٦ في كاشان في إيران لينتقل بعدها إلى طهران. عمل في مجال المسرح الحركيّ تحت إشراف متخصّصين محليّين وعالميّين. وفي العام ٢٠١١، تمّ ترشيحه كأفضل ممثل خلال مهرجان الفجر الدولي. يشغل منذ العام ٢٠١٤ منصب المدير العام لفرقة "ماها" في طهران؛ كما يرقص ويتنقّل حالياً في القطعة المسرحية العالمية "زعفران" للكوريغراف "عمر راجح".
About The Performance
Literally translated as “House of Strength”, Zoorkhaneh is a traditional, all-men gymnasium where Pahlevans (athletes/heroes) do ancient sports in their unified tight pants called Tonokeh. There is a sunken 1m-deep circular (or octagonal) pit in the center of the Zoorkhaneh called GAUD where the activities happen. There are tools used for weight training and calisthenics, such as wooden clubs (mil), bow-shaped iron weights (kabbadeh), metal shields (sang), push-up plates (takhteh sheen) and the bell (zang). Its history goes back to 132 BC and has its roots in ancient Iranian myths where warriors and heroism are often expressed. This performance is inspired by movements and gestures that are pivotal in the Zoorkhaneh as well as whispers and chants in the dagger dance of Torkaman Sahra; a dance just for men which moves in a circle. Mostafa explores how these notions affect him as a contemporary mover.
زورخانة، التي تعني باللغة الفارسية "بيت القوّة"، هو المكان الذي يجتمع فيه الرياضيون الرّجال للتدرّب على رياضات قديمة بلباس ضيّق موحّد اسمه "تنكه". يبرز في وسط الزورخانة خندق دائري (أو ثماني الأضلاع) بعمق متر واحد مغمور بالمياه يطلق عليه اسم GAUD وتقام فيه النشاطات. كذلك، تستخدم أدوات معيّنة في الألعاب الجمبازية وتمرين الأثقال مثل هراوة خشبية (الميل)، وأثقال حديديّة على شكل قوس (كبادة)، ودروع معدنية (السنك) وألواح الضغط. يعود تاريخ هذا المكان إلى العام ١٣٢ ق.م. وقد تجذّر في الأساطير الإيرانية القديمة حيث يظهر عادة المحاربون والأبطال. استوحي العرض من الحركات والإيماءات التي تعدّ محورية في الزورخانة إلى جانب الأصوات والأغاني لرقص الخناجر في منطقة تركمن صحراء؛ هي رقصة للرّجال فقط تتحرّك بشكل دائري. ومن خلال هذا العمل، يستكشف "مصطفى" كيف تؤثّر هذه الأفكار على كونه مصمّم حركات راقصة معاصرة.

About The Artist
Yazan Iwidat started dancing when he was 10 years old as a Dabke dancer with Sarreyet Ramallah Dance Company, at the age of 14, Yazan has decided to take part in the contemporary dance scene and since then he has participated in multiple dance projects internationally: Area Y (Christophersen-Siljeholm, Norway, 2015), Badke (Les Ballets C de la B, KVS, Belgium, 2013), Bound (Ya Samar Dance Theatre, USA, 2014), Ordinary Madness (Sarreyet Ramallah Dance Company, Palestine, 2012), Keffeyieh/made in China (KVS, Belgium, 2012), Sandwichet Labaneh (Sarreyet Ramallah Dance Company, Palestine, 2011). Iwidat has choreographed two pieces until now: Empty Head (Eye on Palestine, Belgium, 2014) that has toured in Brussels, Tunis, Edinburgh and Ramallah, and Running Away (Ra Festival, Palestine, 2016) which has started touring after its premiere in Haifa, Palestine.
بدأ عويضات بالرقص عندما كان عمره 10 سنوات كراقص دبكة في فرقة سرية رام الله الأولى للموسيقى والرقص وأمضى فيها 10 أعوام، قبل أن يتخذ القرار بالإشتراك في مشهد الرقص المعاصر في فلسطين عندما كان عمره 14 عاماً.

About The Performance
A dancer emerges from the dark, hoping that he can fight to reach his dreams, subtly moving -in order not to make a sound-, he fights the cultural norms and burdens put on each Arab youngster shoulders. Ideas of masculinity keep bumping in his head. Running Away is not only a political statement against all economic and social labels that people get classified into, some people run away from wars, other run because they can’t face their own inside struggle.
مرّة من المرّات، قال لي أحد الأصدقاء: "لا يمكنك أبدًا تغيير هذا البلد؛ أنت الذي يجب أن يتغيّر."
هروب؛ عمل راقص يتحدّث عن رجل يحاول مغادرة بلاده والذهاب إلى مكان آخر للبحث عن بداية جديدة، عن مكان جديد يمكّنه من تكوين نفسه دون الأكاذيب والخوف من عدم قبول الآخر، لكنّه يكتشف في هذه الرحلة أنّ الهروب ليس عملًا شجاعًا، وأنّ عليه، بداية، قبول نفسه، وأنّ الجنّة التي يبحث عنها ليست موجودة إلّا في أحلامه.

About The Performance
For 7 Dialogues the composer/performer Matteo Fargion centered his attention on the dancers and their personalities. Individual portraits of the dancers were created with the artistic dialogue partners, Étienne Guilloteau, Tim Etchells, Beth Gill, Hetain Patel, Lucy Suggate and Ivo Dimchev. During BIPOD Festival, 3 selected solos will be presented.

In Water Between Three Hands, Rabih Mroué’s first work with dancers, the theatre-maker is interested in the relationships between presence and absence, reality and fiction, focusing on performers’ bodies as sites of archival sedimentation of these questionable boundaries.

About The Company
Quarto is an artist duo founded in 2003 by Anna af Sillén de Mesquita and Leandro Zappala. Based in Stockholm, they live between Brazil and Sweden collaborating with other artists, researchers, academics and institutions devoted to research and development in the art field. This permanent dialogue in-between two distinct countries forces QUARTO to deal with different working conditions, politics, economies, cultures, infrastructure etc. Placing them in constant challenges and impermanence in a transient and nomadic lifestyle.

About The Performance
This work is a performative exploration lasting several hours, in which the artist duo QUARTO, using a kilometer long rope, challenges the notion of what a body is capable of. In a two-hour long performance, a 1000-metre rope is manipulated to generate a movement vocabulary between body and rope through constant motion. The physical exertion, on the verge of the unbearable, gradually peels away our notions of body and object, ego and drama.
هذا العمل يترجم استكشافاً أدائيّاً يدوم لبضعة ساعات ويتحدّى من خلاله الثنائي، بواسطة حبل يبلغ طوله 1000 متر، ما يستطيع على تحقيقه الجسد. في أداء رائع يمتدّ على ساعتَين من الوقت، يتلاعب الثنائي بالحبل ناقلاً، من دون توقّف، مفردات حركيّة متنقّلة بين الجسد والحبل. هذا المجهود الجسدي، الذي يكاد لا يحتمل، يسلخ عنّا تدريجياً مفاهيم الجسد والغرض، مفاهيم الذات والمسرح.

During this 6th Edition of MOULTAQA LEYMOUN, 13 dancers from Lebanon and other arab countries attended a workshop audition with renowned choreographer Loic Perela and his dancers on their already touring performance Senses.
Two dancers were then granted the opportunity to rehearse with Loic Perela in Beirut and be part of this performance that is taking place within the international program of BIPOD 2017 on the 27th April.

About The Company
My name is Loïc Perela, I am French and I currently live in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. My education as a dancer was very much focused on classical ballet. As a professional dancer, I worked for companies that mainly derive their movement source from a deconstructed form of classical ballet. During those years, my main focus was to perform and to learn from all the processes I was invited to be part of. I wanted to discover my body and mind through those processes. Meanwhile, I was starting to choreograph, in the context of those companies. I soon felt the need to go independently, to question the form and the context in which I was brought up and evolving, to create my own context and to understand the fundaments of what creating means, for me. As of 2012, with the support of Dansateliers, I create my own work as an independent maker. In 2015, I won the Prize of the Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht.

Senses is an attempt to embrace the human senses as the elements that bind us human beings. In this fast and rapidly changing world, where agendas dictate our lives, we seem to keep longing for more without really knowing why. Can we slow down and pay attention to what surrounds us? To see, hear, feel, taste and smell. How can we use the natural functions of our body to (re-)discover and embrace the world around us to its full potential?

About The Company
Since 1989 Helena Waldmann is working as a free-lanced dance director. She studied Applied Theatre Studies in Gießen from 1982-1986 and developed her first works playing with perception at Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfort. Since 2000 she is living in Berlin. Her political choreographies are touring world-wide. These journeys have also continually inspired her to make new works: works such as “Letters from Tentland” in Iran dealing with censorship. About oppression in “BurkaBondage”, Kabul/Tokio. “get a revolver”, a solo about the socially outlawed role of the forgetting. Precarious working conditions in “Made in Bangladesh“, Dhaka, a piece about exploitation in garment factories and in Western cultural industries. The production was nominated for the German Theatre Prize THE FAUST 2015.
تعمل "هيلينا فالدمن" منذ العام ١٩٨٩ كمدرّبة رقص مستقلّة؛ تخصّصت من العام ١٩٨٢ وحتى ١٩٨٦ في الدراسات التطبيقية في المسرح في "غيسن" وأطلقت أولى أعمالها المرتكزة على الإدراك الحسيّ في مسرح Künstlerhaus Mousonturm في "فرانكفورت". تعيش في "برلين" منذ العام ٢٠٠٠ وقد جالت العالم لتقدّم لوحات راقصة سياسية ومبدعة. ولا تنفكّ هذه الجولات تمدّها بالإلهام لتقديم أعمال جديدة مثل Letters from Tentland في إيران حيث تطرّقت إلى موضوع الرقابة وBurkaBondage الذي يشدّد على الظلم والاضطهاد في كابول/طوكيو. أمّا في العمل المنفرد get a revolver ، فتسلّط الضوء على الدور الإيجابي للنسيان في المجتمع. وفي عرض Made in Bangladesh، ركّزت على ظروف العمل الصعبة والاستغلال في مصانع الألبسة في مدينة "دكا" وفي الصناعة الثقافية الغربية. وقد تمّ ترشيح العمل لجائزة المسرح الألماني THE FAUST للعام ٢٠١٥.
About The Performance
«Good Passports Bad Passports» is a deliberate cross-border project for two companies – one contemporary dance company, one from the world of nouveau cirque. They are separated by a wall made of human beings. These people who are cast locally represent the border. The border defines the company, it limits the freedom of movement. In contrast to information, goods and money, people without good passports are not allowed to cross the border. Instead, information, goods and currencies cement the attributions of others – in a world divided by nations.
The choreography uses the means of theatre to visualize the mechanisms of this seclusion. Helena Waldmann chose the title «Good Passports Bad Passports» because you can associate the one or the other company with countries like Afghanistan or Syria where territorial conflicts have made the value of their passports plummet, whereas the other company could be Europe, Canada or the USA whose passports enjoy the highest reputation and guarantee practically complete freedom of movement to their holders.
يتجاوز مشروع (جواز سفر جيد، جواز سفر رديء) Good Passports Bad Passports الحدود جامعاً فرقة للرقص المعاصر مع فرقة من عالم السيرك الحديث. ويفصل بينهما جدار بشري يمثّل فيه الأشخاص الحدود. هذه الحدود هي التي تحدّد الفرقة فتقيّد حريّة الحركة. أمّا في ما يتعلّق بالمعلومات والسلع والمال، فإنّ الأشخاص الذين لا يملكون جواز سفر جيّد لا يُسمح لهم بعبور الحدود فيما تعزّز المعلومات والسلع والمال ميزات الآخرين – في عالم قسّمته الأمم.
يستخدم العرض الراقص الوسائل المسرحية لتصوير آليّات هذه العزلة. وجاء اختيار "هيلينا فالدمن" لعنوان (جواز سفر جيد، جواز سفر رديء) Good Passports Bad Passports ليدلّ على الرابط الذي يجمع كلّ من الفرقتَين ببلاد مثل أفغنستان وسوريا حيث أدّت الصراعات الإقليمية إلى هبوط قيمة جوازات السفر فيها أو بأوروبا أو كندا أو الولايات المتّحدة الأمريكية حيث تتمتّع جوازات السفر بسمعة جيّدة ممّا يضمن حريّة الحركة الكاملة لحامليها.

Thomas Noone Dance (TND) is a contemporary dance company that creates exciting physical dance open to a wide sector of the theatre going public. Since its beginnings in 2001 TND has developed a trademark style that requires a high technical ability from its dancers and seeks to provoke emotion in the spectator using the body as the medium of artistic expression.

About The Performance
Euripides’ Medea is one of the most dramatic tales of betrayal ever written. In Thomas Noone’s re-imagining of this myth we witness the loved and the unloved, the cherished and scorned, pitting themselves against one another using a rich, physical dance language contrasting total dynamism with exquisite fragility and intimacy. The skill and athleticism of the dancers is heightened by an intense soundtrack, which is developed from an electronic sound score and enriched with contemporary and urban influences.
تبرز "ميديا" للكاتب "يوريبيدس" من أكثر قصص الخيانة تأثيراً عبر التاريخ. ومع إعادة تخيّل هذه الأسطورة، تأخذنا فرقة "توماس نون" إلى عالم الحبّ والكره، العشق والاحتقار، حيث يتنافس الراقصون باستخدام لغة الجسد فتتناقض الحيوية المطلقة مع هشاشة وحميميّة راقية. وتضفي الموسيقى الرائعة جمالاً على مهارة ولياقة الراقصين بتأثيراتها المعاصرة والحضرية.

Jad Taleb is a sound &
visual artist and composer born in North, Lebanon and currently based in
Beirut. He works in mixed media including; Music production, sound Design,
video and fine arts. Jad is the co-founder of Beirut based electronic rock band
Flum project, with whom he released his debut album “Dormant” in 2015. He has
been performing music for the last 12 years, he produced his first electronic
works in 2011, around which most of his recent research and projects evolved.
In December 2016, he recorded and produced his upcoming EP “Transitory” at
Riverside Studios Berlin, as part of Beirut Berlin express. His current and
ongoing plan focuses on analog sound processing, Field recording and
electro-arabic merging, generated throughout different sequencing methods,
applied to genres as various as, Techno, Electronica & Sound art.

of the last 20 years exposing Lebanon and the world to the special local and
regional independent music talent, on his long-running radio shows ‘Ruptures’
and ‘Decalages’, on Radio-Lebanon 96.2FM. As a DJ, he started playing music in
local Beirut bars in the early 1990s, and has played in some of the capital’s
most renowned venues. He is currently a resident DJ in several music venues in
Beirut, including Demo, Molo and Lux Restaurant.

Over the years, he's tirelessly sought out both new and obscure sounds from around the globe to satisfy his constantly curious and hungry ear palettes. As a result, Roland owns a vast collection of both digital and vinyl releases. He is now one of the renowned vinyl diggers around the country. Around the turn of the century and following his passion for music, Ragi became a resident and guest DJ at renowned venues, pubs and clubs including L'Osteria, Skipper Bar, Habana, Colorbar, Colonel, Club Social, Yukunkun Club, Radio Beirut. His sets are agreed to be both immersive and boundary-pushing. His curiosity in music making lead him to be one half of the electro-acoustic live duo Tango Remote Control. In 2014, Ragi co-founded Beat, Bass And I Don't Know Bro, a collective showcasing fresh new electronic music genres through monthly events.

Lethal Skillz is the oldest and most established turntablist in the Arab
hip-hop movement. Besides being a world-class DJ he has also distinguished
himself as a prolific producer and long-running ambassador for the Arab hip-hop
massive.
He has two seminal Arab
hip-hop albums to his credit: New World Disorder (2008) and Karmageddon (2012),
which features nearly everyone in the Lebanese hip-hop scene past and present
and many of Arab hip-hop stalwarts from the region and Diaspora! Throughout his
journey he's collaborated and performed with major historical figures in
hip-hop lore - including opening up for the likes of Pharoahe Monch and M-1 of
Dead Prez at The Forum, Kentish Town, in London, England; as well as playing

Maria Kassab aka Annie Jump
Maria Kassab’s works are deeply rooted in and inspired by the political climate of Lebanon and her youth in Montreal. Her layered aesthetic recalls these experiences as these literal superimpositions reconcile her personal history and the Western attitudes realized during her time abroad. Her collages recall the Dadaist Hannah Hoch, whom she cites as an influence, she constructs a contemporaneous identity affected by the illogical and surreal, offering a new vision of a more malleable humanity via the use of social icons and imagery. Her manipulated old photographs create a visual language that deconstructs and decontextualises reality, as a form of resistance to the current political and cultural world rather than in relation to what they represent. Maria Kassab currently lives and works in Beirut.

Born in Lebanon, Charlie is a dance artist currently based in Amsterdam.
As a performer, Charlie has danced with Ballet BC in Vancouver and Compagnie Alias in Geneva. He is currently working as a freelancer in Europe and as a guest artist with Compagnie Marie Chouinard in Montreal. Charlie will be presenting his first solo work Beit Jissmi this year in Europe; this piece addresses the body as a home, as a refuge for memories and dreams which in turn shape the body both internally & externally.

EZZAT EZZAT | EGYPT
Ezzat Is an Egyptian contemporary dancer and choreographer. He had a BA in architecture in parallel with his training as a dancer at Cairo Contemporary Dance Program (2008-2011). Since then, he has been performing and choreographing. Ismail participated in (inter)national workshops, platforms, performances and conferences. Alongside his artistic career, he works on the development of the Egyptian independent arts scene, through the founding of the Ezzat Contemporary Dance Studio 2010, the Contemporary Dance Night series (2011-2016), and the basic rights for Egyptian Dance artists.
راقص و مصمم حرك معاصر، حصل علي بكلوريوس الهندسة المعمارية بالتوازي مع برنامج الرقص المعاصر بالقاهرة (2008-2011)، منذ ذلك الحين و هو يرقص و يصمم الكثير من العروض و يشارك في ورش عمل، منتديات، عروض و مواتمرات محلية و دولية، وبجانب عمله كا فنان، فهو يعمل علي تطوير و تنمية فنون الاداء المستقلة في مصر من خلال تاسيس أستوديو عزت عزت للرقص المعاصر 2010، سلسلة "ليلة رقص معاصر" (2011 – 2016) و الحقوق الاساسية لفناني الرقص بمصر.

My name is Faical El Assia, a Contemporary dancer from Morocco, I went in hip-hop dance at 2010 with my friends in streets, after 5 years I discovered the contemporary dance at Espace Darja, I was so fascinated to this dance because of the spiritual moves that touched my soul in a deeply way, so I started taking courses and workshops and I worked a year and half for the Col'jam company after that, where we worked a creation that we played on tour in Morocco, after that I worked in another project in Alger with the choregrapher Nacera Belaza and Meryem Jazouli. Now my dream is to study the contemporary dance, but unfortunately in Morocco we dont have schools that teach this dance.
اسمي فيصل العصبة ، راقص معاصر من المغرب، و بدءة الرقص الهيب هوب في عام 2010 مع أصدقائي في الشوارع، وبعد 5 سنوات اكتشفت الرقص المعاصر في'Espace Darja، فتنت جدا لهذ الرقص بسبب التحركات الروحية التي مست روحي عميقا ، لذلك أنا بدأت في اتخاذ الدورات وورش العمل وعملت سنة ونصف للشركة Col'jam لرقص المعصر بعد ذلك، قمنا بجولة في المغرب، بعد ذلك عملت في مشروع آخر في الجزائر مع choregrapher نصيرة بلعز و مريم الجزولي. الآن حلمي هو دراسة الرقص المعاصر، ولكن للأسف في المغرب ليس لدينا المدارس التي تعلم هذه الرقصة.
GHIDA HACHICHO | LEBANON
Ghida Hachicho (b. 1989) is an architect, scenographer and dancer based in Beirut. She is currently pursuing a MA in Performance Making at Goldsmiths University. She uses performance and installation to explore the overlap or intersection: between the architectural space and the moving body or the architectural body and the moving space. It is a possibility for space to become performance and for movement to become a new space.
غيدا حشيشو (1989) مهندسة معمارية، راقصة وسينوغراف تقيم في بيروت. .تكمل حاليا دراستها في جامعة جولد سميث في لندن في مجال فن الادء. تستخدم غيدا الأداء والسينوغرافيا لاكتشاف التداخل والاندماج بين المساحة الهندسية والجسم المتحرك أو بين الجسم الهندسي والمساحة المتحركة. إنها فرصةٌ لكي تصبح المساحة أداء ولكي تضحي الحركة مساحة جديدة.
HAMZA DAMRA | PALESTINE
Hamza Damra participated in various Palestinian and international performances such as Area Y (Christophersen-Siljeholm, Norway. Badke, 2016), Les Ballets C de la B (KVS, A.M. Qattan foundation, Belgium, 2016). Hamza is a self-trained hip-hop dancer, member of 48 Stereo based in Nablus, Palestine and participated in various workshops in contemporary dance. He also teaches hip-hop in several schools and centers in Ramallah, Palestine. He’s currently working with YA Samar!! Dance Theatre in their new production against hard surface that will be performed in Ramallah contemporary dance festival in the coming April, 2017.
شارك ضمرة في مختلف العروض الفلسطينية والدولية. مثل: Area Y، إنتاج مشترك بين سرية رام الله الاولى واثنتين من مصممي الرقص النرويجيات Helle Siljeholm and Sara Christophersen، 2016.

ضمرة هو راقص هيب هوب في البداية، قام بتدريب نفسه بنفسه، عضو فريق ستيريو 48 في مدينة نابلس، فلسطين. شارك في ورشات عمل مختلفة في الرقص المعاصر، و يعلم أيضا الهيب هوب في العديد من المدارس والمراكز في رام الله، فلسطين.
حالياً يعمل ضمرة مع يا سمر للمسرح الراقص في إنتاجه الجديد Against the Hard Surface الذي سيقوم افتتاحه في مهرجان رام الله للرقص المعاصر في أبريل القادم، 2017.
HOOR MALAS | SYRIA
Hoor Malas is a Syrian contemporary dancer and choreographer. She started her dance path at the age of eight in the Ballet School in Damascus. She did her BA in dance at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus 2007. She carries a diploma in contemporary dance from NSCD – Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Leeds/UK 2008. Hoor participated in various dance workshops with companies and artists from across the globe including in the US, UK, France and Denmark. She is a co-founder of Sima Dance Company in 2006. At the age of 23, she became a teacher at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts where she continues her career up till now. Some of her choreography works include A Woman’s Dairy in Beirut (2011), Dance Pieces for The International Dance Day (2012, 2013 and 2014), Wishing I Was Stone in Damascus (2014), Above Zero in Beirut (2014) and Regression (2016).
راقصة ومصممة سورية. بدأت مسار رقصها في سن الثامنة في مدرسة الباليه في دمشق. حائزة على درجة البكالوريوس في الرقص من المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية في دمشق عام 2007 وعلى دبلوم في الرقص المعاصر من - Northern School of Contemporary Dance ليدز / المملكة المتحدة 2008. شاركت في العديد من ورشات عمل مع فرق وفنانين عالميين في الولايات المتحدة والمملكة المتحدة و فرنسا والدنمارك. أحد مؤسسي فرقة سمة في عام 2006. أضحت مدرسة في المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية في سن الثالثة والعشرين لتاريخه.

LEILA AWADALLAH | PALESTINE
Leila Awadallah is a Palestinian-American dance artist and creator born in the United States. By weaving movement, sound and imagery, her work cultivates an expressivity that embodies entangling stories of identity; stories that live within our bodies, and stories that are forced onto our bodies by our environment. Leila’s work articulates the tension of claiming a hyphenated identity, and the necessary labor of deconstructing / resisting narratives that unfold in the tension of being both Palestinian and American.

MARWEN ABOUDA | TUNISIA
Marwen Abouda is a Tunisian scenographer, performer and teacher. He cofounded Wajd, a musical fusion project at the crossroads between heritage and contemporary aspects. In 2014, in Stuttgart, he developed an approach based on the connection between digital arts and theater performance: No There Yes May Be Here, Witness Again, Special Tickets. In 2016, he participates in the creation of Hamju, a piece of live and digital art, that articulates body and voice in interpretation and performance. He’s currently experimenting projects to include sound and visual textures of the body.
محمد مروان عبودة ولد بتونس في 1984. سينوغراف، مؤد ومدرس. عضو مؤسس لمجموعة وجد في 2012، مشروع موسيقي قائم على المزج والتوليف بين التراث والمعاصرة.
في إطار إقامة فنية بشتوتغارت في 2014 عمل على الربط بين الفنون الرقمية والفنون الركحية والمسرحية. ما أثمر "تيموان دو بلوس" و "تكاي سبيسيال" كأعمال فردية و " "نو ذار ياس ميبي هير" كعمل جماعي.
في 2016 شارك كمؤد في العمل الفني "هامجوا" بتونس، عرض فنون حية وفنون رقمية، صحبة فنانين من تونس وفرنسا. تتمحور اعماله الحالية حول المادة المرئية والسمعية للجسم وتوظيف العناصر السينوغرافية الرقمية.
NAGHAM MAALA | SYRIA
Nagham Maala attended the ballet school since she was 7 years old, then she continued her studying at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art in the dance department from 2007 to 2011. She learned other types of dance such as jazz, modern and contemporary, and did workshops with many experts (Wilfred Pulih, Christophe Duveau, Henritta Horn and Philip Bergman). Now she is teaching classical dance. She did many choreographies performed in the International Dance Day and she was a director for this day in 2014, and choreographer for the graduation project in 2015.
التحقت نغم معلا بمدرسة الباليه عندما كانت في سن السابعة, ثم أكملت دراستها في المعهد العالي للفنون المسرحية 2007-2011 حيث تعلمت أنواع أخرى من الرقص (كالجاز, الحديث و المعاصر). شاركت بالعديد من وشاركت العمل مع خبراء أمثال (ويلفريد بيوله, كريستوف ديفو, هنريتا هورن و فيليب بيرغمان). و الآن هي تدرس مادة الرقص الكلاسيكي. صممت بعض اللوحات الراقصة و عرضت في يوم الرقص العالمي الذي كانت مخرجته في العالم 2014 كما صممت مشروع تخرج في عام 2015.

In 1968, Maestro A.H. Caracalla founded the most prominent and professional dance theatre of the Middle East, creating a body language based upon the Martha Graham dance disciplines blended with Arabic identity, thus creating a unique “Caracalla Dance Style”. The Caracalla Dance Theatre has performed in the most reputable theatres and cultural cities across the world, such as the Kennedy Centre Washington DC, Carnegie Hal New York, National Centre for the Performing Arts Beijing (NCPA), London Sadlers’ Wells and London Coliseum, Theatre des Champs Elysees in Paris, Osaka National Theatre, Rio and Sao Paolo Opera House, Royal Opera House Muscat, Frankfurt Opera House, Kuala Lumpur Grand Auditorium to name a few. Since 1968 Caracalla created over sixteen ballets and musicals including adaptations of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Taming of the Shrew and Much Ado About Nothing”. Recipient of numerous acclaimed awards, the Company has captured global press recognition by revealing a rich and mysterious east fused with western technique. Caracalla collaborates with internationally renowned artists pioneers in the world of the Performing Arts and today has its own home theatre and a dance school teaching and illuminating today’s youth for an artistic future.
Caracalla was the first to establish a dance company in Lebanon and to lay the foundations of the local dance scene. He paved the way for future generations across the Arab World and brought the art of dance to be accepted and valued. BIPOD will place on record this year its thanks and appreciation for the role he has played.

About the artist
Pina Bausch (1940-2009) is one of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century. Together with her company Tanztheater Wuppertal she has created a wealth of pieces for more than 36 years, many of which are still performed in many countries around the world. The Pina Bausch Foundation carries her artistic legacy into the future. In 2016, they developed the exhibition "Pina Bausch and the Tanztheater". One part of this exhibition is on display here.

Ensembles, a video installation about Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch – a composition of video projections and music, created by Ismaël Dia and Pina Bausch's long-time companion Matthias Burkert. Video recordings had been an essential part of Pina Bausch's working process since the beginnings. Rolf Borzik, Herbert Rach, Detlef Erler, Jérôme Cassou, Grigori Chakov and others have been recording her work. This installation is a journey through time, emergence, evolution, change and rejuvenation – it is one way out of many to look at this artistic work.

SCREENING - Gilbert Hage Photo Intervention

A collaborative photography project
For its 13th edition, the festival BIPOD will collaborate with renowned Beirut based photographer Gilbert Hage, to create a photo gallery of the invited artists – performers, dancers, and choreographers. Present every day at the very heart of the festival, in our new venue, Citerne Beirut, Gilbert will capture in situ moments, illustrating the individuality of each participant’s personal artistic universe. The collaboration will result in a projection of the photos during the closing day, and in a dedicated book.
Practical details for the artists & company managers
Gilbert will be present every Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and weekends until 6pm to take pictures of the artists. We will organize the photo shoots so that it doesn’t disturb the companies’ schedules, so each will last about 5 minutes per dancer. The work will be presented once during the closing day of the festival, and then with the release of the book. After the release, each artist who participated to the project will receive an A4 format print of his picture. The artists who choose to participate will sign an agreement with the festival and the photographer allowing them to use the picture, and will be able to use it freely also.

About the workshop
The Workshops are an introduction to the Jooss-Leeder method, which has been developed and taught at the Folkwangschule, later Folkwang Hochschule - now Folkwang University; a form of contemporary dance rooted in the theories by Rudolf von Laban, which were the base for the development of german dance expressionism in the thirties and the starting point of the german Tanztheater by Pina Bausch.
The main focus is to convey basic principles of movement like the use of time, space, and energy and how to implement and develop those individually. The aim is not to train dancers, but to train people who dance. The course is supposed to help dancers to improve their technical and expressive abilities and to stimulate choreographers and teachers in their own work by applying these movement principles.
Franko Schmidt
Is a member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch since 2004. He danced in the company of Mark Sieczkarek, in the company of Joachim Schlömer in Basel/ Switzerland, at the Folkwang Tanzstudio under the direction of Henrietta Horn and as a guest with the "Limón Dance Company" in New York. He was also working with choreographers such as Susanne Linke, Manuel Quero, Zoltan Dani, Gabrio Gabrielli, Sanna Myllylahti and Eun Me Ahn. Numerous guest performances led him to Indonesia, Hongkong, Singapore, China, Japan, South Korea, Brasil, USA, India, Egypt, Taiwan and all over Europe.
He has been teaching regularly at the Folkwang University for the Arts in Essen and has also been working as a guest teacher at the Folkwang Tanzstudio Essen, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa/Mexico, at the „Los Talleres“ in Mexico City, the Kyoto-Artcenter/Japan, the "OMA" in Florence/Italy, at the Dance Department of the Theatre Academy Shanghai, at the Istanbul Festival as well as at the Danza Universitaria San José/ Costa Rica.
Franko Schmidt trained at the "Schule für Tanztheater Bernd Kühn“ in Hamburg where he also had his first teaching experience; he studied with Jean Cébron and Lutz Förster among others at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, founded in 1927 by Kurt Jooss, which is considered to be one of the most renowned schools for contemporary dance and composition with an education that tries to help students to encourage imagination, to extend technical possibilities, to search for truth and to develop their own form of expression and body language.

About the workshop
The Workshops are an introduction to the Jooss-Leeder method, which has been developed and taught at the Folkwangschule, later Folkwang Hochschule - now Folkwang University; a form of contemporary dance rooted in the theories by Rudolf von Laban, which were the base for the development of german dance expressionism in the thirties and the starting point of the german Tanztheater by Pina Bausch.
The main focus is to convey basic principles of movement like the use of time, space, and energy and how to implement and develop those individually. The aim is not to train dancers, but to train people who dance. The course is supposed to help dancers to improve their technical and expressive abilities and to stimulate choreographers and teachers in their own work by applying these movement principles.
Franko Schmidt
Is a member of the Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch since 2004. He danced in the company of Mark Sieczkarek, in the company of Joachim Schlömer in Basel/ Switzerland, at the Folkwang Tanzstudio under the direction of Henrietta Horn and as a guest with the "Limón Dance Company" in New York. He was also working with choreographers such as Susanne Linke, Manuel Quero, Zoltan Dani, Gabrio Gabrielli, Sanna Myllylahti and Eun Me Ahn. Numerous guest performances led him to Indonesia, Hongkong, Singapore, China, Japan, South Korea, Brasil, USA, India, Egypt, Taiwan and all over Europe.
He has been teaching regularly at the Folkwang University for the Arts in Essen and has also been working as a guest teacher at the Folkwang Tanzstudio Essen, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa/Mexico, at the „Los Talleres“ in Mexico City, the Kyoto-Artcenter/Japan, the "OMA" in Florence/Italy, at the Dance Department of the Theatre Academy Shanghai, at the Istanbul Festival as well as at the Danza Universitaria San José/ Costa Rica.
Franko Schmidt trained at the "Schule für Tanztheater Bernd Kühn“ in Hamburg where he also had his first teaching experience; he studied with Jean Cébron and Lutz Förster among others at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen, founded in 1927 by Kurt Jooss, which is considered to be one of the most renowned schools for contemporary dance and composition with an education that tries to help students to encourage imagination, to extend technical possibilities, to search for truth and to develop their own form of expression and body language.

During this 6th Edition of MOULTAQA LEYMOUN, 13 dancers from Lebanon and other arab countries will attend a workshop audition with renowned choreographer Loic Perela and his dancers on their already touring performance Senses. Two dancers will then be granted the opportunity to rehearse with Loic Perela in Beirut and be part of the performance that is taking place within the international program of BIPOD 2017 on the 27th April.

About the company
Dancers from Company Wayne McGregor will lead a fast paced and challenging technique class reflecting the idiosyncratic and dynamic movement style of Wayne McGregor. Participants will then be led through research-‐based choreographic exercises. These generative task-‐based choreographic tools reflect the methods used by McGregor in the studio with his dancers and will open new doors to individuals' creativity and facilitate innovative forms of making.

This multi styles combines the history of dance (ballet elements of European contemporary dance and oriental influences) and work on the Maqam. In dance, they result from the movement. In search of a continuous movement, Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon work in the workshop on joint composition relays where each link of the organic chain and draw all the possible Kinespher. Fantasy of an elastic body, between relaxation and deep muscle strength: they offer a way inside swing and motion towards malaxante dance, spiral and hypnotic. Choreographers adapt their approach to the skills levels of each group they work with, starting with warm-up exercises in the beginning but gradually encouraging the participants to perform dance patterns designed by the company.

Since 1975 Lutz Förster has been dancing over a period of 40 years with the Tanztheater Wuppertal - Pina Bausch and was the Artistic Director of the company from April 2013 until July 2016. Since 1991 he is Professor for Contemporary Dance at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany and has been directing the Dance Department until 2012.
In 2009 he created a Solo “Lutz Förster- Portrait of a dancer”, in which he looks back on his life as a dancer especially the 34 year collaboration with Pina Bausch, as well as his work with Robert Wilson and the Jose Limón Dance Company. He has been touring this solo until today in Germany and around the world (Warsaw, Ferrara, Brussels, Oslo, Zagreb, Seoul among others). In 2017 he revised this piece.
“Lutz Förster – Dance Stories by and with Lutz Förster” will be performed for the first time at BIPOD 2017 the Beirut International Platform of Dance.

In July 1984, he returned to the company as Associate Artistic Director, where he performed in choreographies by José Limón, Anna Sokolow, and Meredith Monk among others. He has been working freelance with Robert Wilson in productions of the Hamburg State Opera (Cosmopolitan Greetings) and the Scala di Milano (Dr. Faustus) and with Sir Simon Rattle for the Salzburg Festival (Les Boréades). He also appeared in several TV and Film productions, as in Wim Wenders “Pina”. He trained at the Folkwang - Hochschule in Essen and studied with Hans Züllig and Jean Cébron among others. Up until 1978, Förster was a member of the Folkwang Tanzstudio under the direction of Susanne Linke and Reinhild Hoffmann. He has been working as a guest teacher worldwide. In 2008/09 he taught as a guest professor for the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, Mexico. In September 2015 Lutz Förster was awarded in Positano/Italy the Léonide Massine Dance Prize for his lifetime achievement (Premio alla Carriera).

About the training program
The moving global context requires to re-examine existing links, mobilizing cultural actors, artists, researchers, active members of civil society from both sides of the Mediterranean area to deepen understanding of this multiple reality, its impact on our societies in general, and on culture in particular, and jointly consider new relevant cooperation frameworks.
The training will enable actors in the cultural, creative and media sectors, to develop innovative approaches in cooperation in the framework of Euro-Mediterranean area, focusing on the following main axes:
- What are the transformations of spaces and frameworks for cooperation?
- What are the common issues (economic, geopolitical, cultural, social, etc ...) to the cultural, creative and media players on both shores?
- Which research and action networks can emerge in order to achieve joint projects in which everyone finds their ways of reinforcement and development?

A new creative performing art space in Beirut that will present local and international contemporary dance performances, music concerts, theatre productions, and related forms of the arts such lectures, receptions, book signing, art exhibitions and installations. It is a mobile steel structure of 1000 sqm with a mobile performance space reconfigured according to the artists’ wishes. Citerne Beirut is equipped with offices, artist lounges, & residency apartments.
